Week 1

Day 1 - September 6th - Monday

After an exhausting weekend with awesome sugar ladies I headed to my first Bikram Class. Before heading into class it came to my attention just how much weight I have gained. Current weight 135 lbs! Apparently in a month I gained back about 7lbs. Turns out it was my birth control causing all the issue. So off the pill I went on google to find out how many calories one bikram work out burns out. Turns out 938 calories per work out!

As we all know in order to lose one pound you need to burn 3500 calories... So with 7 classes a week I am looking at 2lbs weekly... not bad at all.

During my first class I was sweating bullets. I did not realize that you need a towel for the mat (this was never the requirement with vinyasa aka my favorite yoga discipline). So I sweated, and sweated and then sweated some more. The class went by faster than I thought. The second part of the class has many 2 minute meditation sessions, which was very welcomed for me. To be perfectly honest, I was sitting out a lot of the poses.

Day 2 - September 7th - Tuesday

I have an 8pm class. I left work promptly at 7pm leaving myself plenty of time to zen out before class and leave my hectic work day behind me. I got on the subway and what should have been a 20 minute ride turned into a 45 minute nightmare. The express train was not running express, it was delayed... basically I missed my class. I was bitching and moaning to my bestie about it and she said that she was coming to the area and suggested we grab sushi. Since I had not eaten since lunch I agreed. This only means I need to make up the class!

Day 3 - September 8th - Wednesday

Work has been super hectic. I had a 7:30pm class scheduled. It soon became apparent that I would not be making this class. So I moved it to an 8:30 class at another studio, which I once again was unable to make it. Of course, I moved it to a 9:45 class and my fat bitch boss made sure I missed as well. Then she told us we can go home at 9:30 grrrrr.

This only meant one thing... she was going to sabotage my work outs. So I got smarter... I will work out in the mornings before going into work. Which means Thursday I would take the 6:45am class (5:30 wake up call anyone?). Oh, I also need to make up this class as well.

Day 4 - September 9th - Thursday

After working till 10pm the night before I woke up at 5:30am. I made my coffee and ran out of the door to my yoga class. Surprisingly the class felt so good... all the stress from work had melted away. I finished class from start to finish, no breaks! I totally rocked it!!!!!!!!!!! I headed into work and was way more productive and did not feel the morning slug. It was my intention to take another class after work. However, bitch boss to the rescue! I was working till 11pm again.

Day 5 - September 10th - Friday

I had today off due to some appointments, as well as, a much needed mental health day. I woke up with a pounding migraine and headed to the am yoga class. I was getting good at the am wake ups! This class was lead by an amazing bodied stunning woman who looked super familiar. It was during this class that I saw the perfect male specimen. Chizzled yoga body, tall dark and handsome... I so would... all night long! My fantasy was ended shortly thereafter when I found out he was dating the perfect body yoga instructor. After class, in the dressing room I asked the yoga instructor if I had met her before. She quickly revealed that she was one of the models on "Project Runway" and its spin off "Models of the Runway." very cool indeed... after that I had two appointments which are part of my other challenge which I am partaking in (but will not reveal until day 30)

Day 6 - September 11th - Saturday

Hopped on a scale to realize I have lost 2 lbs! Nicely done me!

I had a 6pm nightly class which I attended. I felt invigorated after the class. In addition, I noticed how smooth my skin had gotten. My blackheads (on the nose) disappeared on their own, the skin was radiant. This was the Bikram glow everyone spoke about! I love it... I am glowing...

My posture and strength are improving. I breeze through class and am becoming more flexible... For a person with zero hand eye coordination and balance... lets just say I am proud of myself.

After class I spoke to the instructor about making up my classes. I need to make up 2! I asked her if I should do the classes back to back or take one in the morning one in the evening. She suggested I should do them back to back. Oh boy! Tomorrow will be fun!

Still on track with the second challenge.

Day 7 - September 12th - Sunday

Today was the make up day! Since I missed 2 classes last week it was time to make one of them up. This only meant I had to do two classes back to back. Of course, today would be the day when it would rain all day long! As I walked from the subway I felt incredible peace... the rain streaming down my cheeks and soaking my clothes did not bother me. I was in a walking meditation. I did the first class, however, I was not feeling great. I guess drinking the night before did not help my cause, or not hydrating properly. I almost considered skipping my second class but I needed to make up the class from last week. The instructor let me know that the second class would feel like nothing else. The second class felt extremely good, my body was used to the heat and it was not fighting against it. I hit most postures perfectly while maintaining the perfect poker face. Still in the eye of the storm! Or so the instructor said. I took a long shower and headed home... It had stopped raining and I was feeling amazing... walking on clouds.

Still on track with the second challenge.

Next week I will have to make up one class from this week. I think each Saturday and Sunday I will do double yoga. I know it sounds insane but the euphoria after is unlike anything else I have experienced.

Went to a zumba class today, tomorrow I will go again and maybe do some other classes throughout the week. I feel so good, the endorphins have definitely kicked in :D

I should probably take some pictures for myself so I can see the before and after.

Good luck to everyone joining in!

  4. So I am up for the 30 day challenge. I decided to get up 5 am to do 20 min workout. I'm 5'3 and 115 lbs. I want to get toned and loose some belly fats. I will follow your blogs as my inspiration. Great job. I am also looking into the hot yoga in my area. Sounds interesting. Perhaps that will be my next challenge if I survive this one :)
